     This Discovery Channel site features current health news, a section on diseases and conditions, encyclopedias on diseases, injuries, surgery, and medical tests, a medical dictionary, and clinical trials. Find articles by physicians about health topics and calculators for calories burned by activity, basal metabolic rate, blood alcohol content, body mass index, cost of smoking, and heart rate.

Drug Information Portal
     This service from the National Library of Medicine provides "reliable, easily comprehensible, and current information from renowned and reputable sources.  This portal presently covers over 12,000 drugs from their inception at clinical trials, through FDA approval, to entry into the marketplace.  This content rich resource will be highly useful to practitioners, college students, and laypeople alike." (Choice, July 2008).

Healthfinder: Your Guide to Reliable Health Information 
     This site for consumers contains a directory of health organizations and links to hundreds of sites featuring "government and nonprofit health and human services information." Includes news, articles, and a kids section. Searchable, and browseable by topic. From the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

MEDLINEplus
     This directory site, a service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health is designed to lead the user to resources containing information that will help with researching their health questions. The information is organized into the categories of Health Topics, Drugs & Supplements, a Medical Encyclopedia and Dictionary, News, Directories (doctors, dentists and hospitals) and Other Resources. More than 165 interactive tutorials are available on a wide range of health issues. Searchable and browseable.

The Merck Manual of Medical Information - Second Home Edition 
     The full-text, searchable consumer edition of the famous Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy "meant for all those people interested in medical care who did not have a medical degree." Includes audio files of pronunciations, photographs, animations, and video files. Searchable and browseable. Updated regularly.

National Health Information Center (NHIC) 
     The heart of this site is its Health Information Resource Database, which includes thousands of U.S. organizations and government offices that provide health information on request. Included are a list of toll-free health information telephone numbers and federal health information centers and clearinghouses. Browse by subject or search by title, keyword, city, or state.

National Rehabilitation Information Center (NARIC) 
     The National Rehabilitation Information Center has been in existence for 25 years. Its mission is to get appropriate information to those with disabilities and those who work in the disability and rehabilitative communities. Its Web site is divided into three main categories, offering information for the public, for researchers, and for grantees who have received funds through the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR). Researchers have access, through a simple keyword search function, to (1) REHABDATA, with nearly 70,000 abstracts of print and audiovisual materials from 1956 to the present, and more than 1,300 full-text articles; (2) the NIDRR Project Database, covering projects funded from 1993 on; and (3) the NARIC Knowledgebase, offering information and referral resources. Users will find live support through a chat option, and many other ways to contact the organization.
