Minors

Policy for the Use of Library by Minors Who Are Not Mount Aloysius College Students

Anyone aged 15 or younger must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times while using the Library. Patrons in this age category are not eligible to obtain a Library borrower's card.

Patrons ages 16 and 17 years may obtain a Library borrower's card and may use the Library's resources while unaccompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The one exception to these privileges is use of the electronic network. Access to the Internet at Mount Aloysius College is unfiltered. The possibility that minor patrons might access sites that parents or legal guardians could find objectionable is one that creates liability issues for the College. Therefore, access to the electronic network of the Mount Aloysius College Library for any patron under the age of 18 can be granted only when that patron is accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

The Library staff reserve the right to ask for a photo ID with proof of age in order to grant specific Library privileges.

This policy enables the Library staff to provide better service for the research needs of the Mount Aloysius College community and the community at large. We will gladly assist elementary, junior high school and senior high students with school projects and school-related research. In cases where students are under the age of 16 years, a parent or legal guardian will be expected to remain with the student for purposes of supervision.

The Library staff reserve the right to provide service to the students, faculty and staff of Mount Aloysius College as a first priority. Non-College users of the Library will be asked to log off a computer workstation if all other workstations are in use and a Mount Aloysius College user needs to use one.
