Laptop Program Policy
The College has purchased, through the Perkins Grant Program, laptop computers for use by students. It is a goal of the laptop program to help students have access to the technology they need to complete their coursework. A laptop computer can be borrowed for a maximum of 7 days, or the duration of a class break, from the Library Circulation Desk staff. Laptop computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note the following:
- Students will need a valid Mount Aloysius College I.D. card and must be registered in a program in the current term to borrow a laptop computer.
- Computers will be bar-coded and entered into the Library’s online system, Mountlink. Fines for overdue laptops will accrue at $25.00 per day. Note that laptops will be treated like other Library materials; overdue laptops or unpaid fines will result in the holding of grades and if unresolved, could affect the student’s ability to graduate.
Conditions for Participation
- Borrowers are personally liable for replacement or repair costs for any laptop or accessories damaged, lost or stolen during their borrowing period.
- Students should be aware that 85% of all computer theft happens to laptop computers. Please keep the computer secure while it is in your possession. If a College laptop is lost or stolen while in the possession of a student, the student is responsible for the full replacement cost of the computer (approximately $2,000.00).
- If a laptop is damaged in any way, upon its return to the Library, the student will be responsible for the total repair charges.
- Computers may be picked up at the Circulation Desk on Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.; on Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- Before returning the laptop, please delete all personal files. Do not install software on the laptops or reconfigure the computer in any way. A $50.00 charge will be billed directly to the borrower’s student account if the laptop needs to be reconfigured to its original state.
