"Family and strong religious faith along with freedom of inquiry gives one a sense of identity," were the words Pastor Myers used to describe his journey in the Lutheran faith. Growing up on a dairy farm in the Mennonite region of Pennsylvania's Bucks County, Pastor Myers embraced his family's interest in art and culture evidenced by a deep love of books.

Pastor Myers received a B. A. degree at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, his M. Div. at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, and an Honorary Doctorate of Human Letters at Mount Aloysius College. He served as chairman and member of the Board of Trustees of Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries, member of the Board of Trustees at the Lutheran Theological Seminary, and on committees of the Allegheny Synod. Ecumenical relations among Christians have been a subject of great interest to Pastor Myers so he served from the Synod's beginning as its ecumenical representative. After serving for three years as the assistant pastor of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Arlington Heights, Illinois, he came to Somerset County in 1974 to serve two parishes, Trinity Lutheran Church and Saint Thomas Evangelical Lutheran church, both in Hooversville. In 1999, his parishioners honored his 25th anniversary with a gift trip to Germany where he witnessed the historic signing of the Joint Declaration of the Doctrine of Justification between the Lutheran Word Federation and the Roman Catholic Church.
