Ecumenical Collection

In April 2000, Pastor Gerald L. Myers generously donated his personal theological library to Mount Aloysius College to provide "the people of Allegheny region with a resource that could be used by all denominations." The donation formed the core of the Ecumenical Studies Collection that now consists of more than 16,500 volumes mainly in the field of theology, religion, philosophy, Old and New Testament studies, ethics, religious art and music, Christian spirituality, feminist theology, Marian studies, ministry and pastoral care, the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Jesus Seminar and Radical Reformation, and other disciplines crossing many faith traditions. Many titles are from academic and foreign presses (especially English and German) as well as from standard American publishers of religious scholarship. Reference sources are also varied and among others include the New Catholic Encyclopedia, Encyclopedia Judaica, the Anchor Bible Series and many others. The Ecumenical Studies Collection also contains works by specific philosophers and theologians such as complete sermons of John Donne and works of Henry Nouwen. The collection includes significant holdings in audiovisual formats, journals in religious studies and other periodicals, a vertical file of pamphlet materials, and many artwork pieces. The items in the Ecumenical Studies Collection are cataloged in the Mount Aloysius College Library catalog, Mountlink, at http://ipac.mtaloy.edu/ and are identified by the letters ESC at the beginning of the call number.
